As I think about moving to the East to fulfill the honor that you have bestowed on me, I think about Gideon Lodge as a living entity. I will preside in the East with a Past Master to both my right and to my left. They, along with all the other Past Masters, who have offered their help and advice, are the brains of this body.
The line of officers, both elected and appointed, provide the bones and skeleton of our body. They are the ones who provide the framework for our rituals. They learn their parts, both spoken and unspoken, that give life to our work. The loyal brothers who show up to fill the sidelines, offer to help where needed, and even those who just support us with their dues when their distance and other circumstances prevent attendance, all of them constitute the flesh of our body of Gideon Lodge.
But what really keeps the blood flowing in this body of Gideon Lodge? It is of course the new members. Not only do they give us reason to keep our rituals well executed, but they will be the ones who succeed us as we move on to the limitations of age. Our body requires the renewal of new members. We, your new slate of officers, are proud to be moving members up the line. Most of us got to move up while Clovis Leach was the Master. That gave us the confidence to be ready for the next step, and allowed our brothers to see that we were prepared.
As we welcome a new set of Masons, we look forward to having an enjoyable and productive year in Gideon Lodge. A lodge that our Gideon Ancestors bequeathed us over a hundred years ago, in a Fraternity that our ancient brothers bequeathed us over a thousand years ago.
